Fontainebleau - Classified Information
This guidebook is perfect for experienced climbers who are seeking lesser-known and more secluded spots in Fontainebleau. Volume 1 covers the central sections of popular areas like Bas Cuvier, while the outlying areas such as Cuvier Ouest, Nord, Rempart, Merveille, Monts, and Reconnaisance are covered in detail, including all 49 areas to the left, featuring over 9000 climbing problems. Essentially, this book overlaps with Fun Bloc but also includes areas that require a farther walk from the car park.
Circuits - All Grades
This guidebook also includes 136 circuits that are not featured in Fun Bloc, catering to climbers of all levels, with 60 orange and yellow, 45 blue, 20 red, and 10 black circuits. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned climber, you will find some superb quiet circuits in this book, with most having little to no polish. As the boulders are more spread out in outlying areas, a portable crash pad setup is recommended. The guidebook also features a double-page spread with a chart of the classic 12 styles of Fontainebleau problems, ranging from slabs to roofs, along with all the classic problems in each grade to tick off.
Summer or Winter
This guidebook is invaluable during hot summer or cool dry winter, as many of the secluded areas have good tree cover, providing excellent shade during hot summer periods. In winter, the areas dry quickly due to the lack of leaves, offering superb climbing. However, in autumn or spring, wet leaves can hold the damp in the sectors, making them less suitable if it has been particularly damp.
